What is Static and Dynamic IP?

Many Internet users often have a question what is static and dynamic IP address. Before we explain static IP and dynamic IP, let us first speak about what is IP address.

The Internet Service Provider (ISP) assigns an IP address to your Internet-enabled device. This IP address is unique to your computer and can help identify your device from others.

What is Static IP?

A static IP address or fixed IP address is a number that is assigned by the ISP. It is a permanent address of your Internet-enabled device. Computers use it to locate and transfer information amongst them.

The static IP address is useful for people who:
  • Own a website
  • Have their own email server
  • Need to access a VPN from multiple PCs using a single broadband service
  • Those who use an off-site server duplication
  • Who need to use certain security services like cameras
  • Run an FTP server

A static IP address is better than dynamic IP address as it has a low downtime risk.  Also, one can access their PC from any location in the world using a static IP address.

What is Dynamic IP?

A dynamic IP address is the one that is temporarily assigned to a computer. This temporarily IP address is requested to a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) computer. It assigns dynamic IP address from a pool of IP addresses. When the DHCP computer requests for a dynamic IP address, the number is assigned for duration of that Internet session. Once the Internet-enabled device is disconnected from the Internet, the dynamic IP address is sent back to the IP address pool. This IP address can then be reused for another user, when needed.

A dynamic IP address is advantageous for those who:
  • Use several computers using an internal network and require sharing limited address space.
  • Use just one device to connect to the main location using a one-way Virtual Private Network (VPN).

This was some information regarding static IP and dynamic IP address. The static IP address remains fixed and dynamic IP address is assigned temporarily. Both are important and help users connect to the Internet easily.

Microsoft Edge vs. Google Chrome: Which Web Browser is better?

Microsoft Edge vs. Google Chrome: Which Web Browser is better?

Microsoft Edge was the surprise cracker introduced along with the latest Windows 10. It is blazing fast and has a lighter design. It is more exciting to use then the previous Internet Explorer. Oh, and it is backed up with Cortana. However, most of us have our very own favoritebrowser, Google Chrome. So, the debate begins Microsoft Edge vs. Google Chrome: which web browser is better.

Let’s find the answers in the paragraphs below.

Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome: Which to Choose?

Choosing the right browser actually depends on how you feel about it. A browser that fulfills all your needs and allows you to work with ease is the best for you. However, if you are musing about Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, let us learn more about them before you make a decision.

Google Chrome

Chrome has become synonymous with web browsing. The first thing that comes to mind with Chrome is Gmail. It allows complete integration of your Google account and has shortcuts to reach your favorite Google features.

Chrome is loaded with extensions that suite all your needs. It even helps block ads for you and easily data on your smartphone as well as other devices. All you need is a single Google account signed into all your devices.

It free and allows you to enjoy a load of features. Google Chrome is a cross-platform browser and can work on any version of Windows. The interface is user-friendly and simple to use. It has a clean look and you can install themes to make it look more you. However, the themes hardly change anything and it appears more like wallpaper than an actual theme.

When you take the Kraken and RoboHornet test, Chrome tops them all. It even manages to top the HTML5 compatibility test. Chrome will warn users of any websites it thinks contains malware or can carry out a phishing attack. Thus, the user can continue on their own risk. It runs in a sandbox process that protects the user from malware without them even knowing about it.

When Chrome detects a website in a foreign language, it will automatically offer the user to translate it in the language they are comfortable in. It even helps in creating desktop shortcuts for specific Web links and has a supervised user feature. This feature allows certain users from accessing certain sites only, blocks specific sites, force safe search, etc.

Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge appears like the modern younger brother of Internet Explorer. It has a streamlined toolbar, fewer icons and in tandem with the overall look of Windows 10. The one feature that actually makes it stand out is complete integration of AI-assistant Cortana.

You could choose from the Light and Dark themes an toggle a Favorites bar in Edge. This is all you can do with the Edge when it comes to customization. When it comes to speed tests, Chrome definitely takes the crown away from Edge.

As far as Addons and Extensions are considered, Microsoft Edge does not have much to offer. It lacks the extensibility support and the company calls it their strict rules before an extension is allowed to go online.

Security and privacy on Edge is groundbreaking in some ways.it has a built-in SmartScreen feature that performs a reputation check on websites and even blocks websites that are flagged as phishing websites. It no longer supports ActiveX and VBScript that has several security flaws.

Final Word

In the war of Microsoft Edge versus Google Chrome, which one is better, Chrome definitely turns out to be a clear winner. Microsoft Edge is exclusively available for Windows 10 users only.
Thus, making it difficult to reach more users who are still use Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. If you are a Windows 10 user, then you can try using Edge. Only after you use it, it will help you decide if it is Chrome or Edge that is made for you.

Common Wi-Fi Problems and Their Solutions

Wi-Fi has become an integral part of our lives. There was a time when you had to disconnect from the Wi-Fi in order to make a phone call. Today, this problem is eliminated; however many other problems have cropped up. Do not pull your hair in irritation, instead read on to find out more about common Wi-Fi problems and their solutions.

Common Wi-Fi Problems with Their Simple Solutions

The minute the Wi-Fi loses connectivity, people begin to panic. It has become as important as the air we breathe. If you too are facing some common Wi-Fi problems, then the following simple solutions may help solve your problem.

1.Slow Internet

A consistent slow Internet connection means you are too far away from the router. If your router is placed in another move, try working near the router. If this still does not fix the issue, then maybe there are some other problems to be addressed. Like an electronic device or furniture around it that is interfering with its signal. Try placing the router away from your cordless phone, microwave, television, books, etc. Place it right at the top so that it faces no interference.

If this still does not work, then you may have bandwidth problem. Too many devices connected to a single network may cause thinning of the Internet speed. Try disconnecting most of the devices and then check the speed. You may notice it does become faster than usual.

If nothing works then your router is needs a wakeup call. Press the reset button and bring it back to its factory settings. Reset the settings and try connecting to the Internet. If there is no difference then you need to call your ISP right away and them to look into the matter.

2.Certain Areas Have No Connectivity

This is a common problem faced by many. You may need to move your router to a better place around the house. Try placing it in the central room away from any interference. You can try adjusting the antenna by moving it in different directions. In case you live in an apartment with many other routers around you, their signals may be interfering with you router signal. Try to change the channel of your router to get a stronger signal. If nothing helps, get a wireless repeater to help improve the connectivity.

3.Connection Keeps Dropping

Does your connection keeps dropping randomly? If this is a regular problem, then try noticing the drop time. If it tends to happen every time you enter a room or when using electronic devices such as the microwave, your router is functioning on 2.5GHz frequency. It may even happen if the neighbors are heavy Internet bandwidth users. So, better change your frequency to 5GHz.

4.Certain Devices Cannot Connect to the Network

Does your smartphone or new laptop is not able to connect to your Wi-Fi network? Then try switching off your router, unplugging it and then plugging it back in after a couple of minutes. You can even delete the current network from your device and then re-connecting it. You can even run the ‘Wireless Diagnostics’ on Windows or ‘Wi-Fi Troubleshooting’ on Mac. This will give you a fair idea about the underlying problem.

5.Wi-Fi Suddenly Goes Off Network

Do you find your Wi-Fi network suddenly go off radar? The reason may be the router is resetting itself. You may need to reset the settings of your router and getting it re-configured. Press the reset button on your router and then open any web browser on your computer. Enter the default IP address and log in to the router admin page. Change the settings and make sure you keep your Wi-Fi network password protected.

6.Wi-Fi Connected, No Internet

You may find your device has connected to your Wi-Fi network. But, there is no Internet Access. Try connecting the router with an Ethernet cord and see if the Internet works now. If not, then there may be a connection outage from your ISP.

7.Need to Restart Router Repeatedly

If you find yourself restarting your router repeatedly as it continuously keeps crashing, then just hit the reset button. Reset and re-configure the router from scratch. If this too does not help, then your router is dying and you need to consider buying a new one.

8.Forgot Wireless Password

Forgot your wireless password? Do not worry. There is no need to reset your wireless router. Just login to your router admin page by entering your default username and password. You may find the router admin page address and default username and password printed at the back of your router device. Once you login, go to the security settings tab and scroll down to the password or passkey. Here, you will find your password for connecting to your wireless network. Note it down and use it to connect your new device to your current Wi-Fi network.

These are some of the common Wi-Fi problems and their solutions. Try these out before you call a technician to help you.

How Does Router Work?

Routers are common devices found in homes as well as offices alike. Without routers, it will not be possible to use the Wi-Fi internet. But have you ever wondered how does router work?

The following article deals with this question and will help you understand a routers working in simple terms.

Working of a Router

Routers are devices that help in connecting networks together as well as routing traffic between networks. The process where IP packets are forwarded from one network to another is called as routing.

There is a minimum of two network cards (NICs) in a router. One card is physically connected to a network and other physically connected to the other network. You can connect your router to any number of networks as it has a dedicated NIC for each network.

Components of a Router

Let us learn what comprises of a router. The components of a router include:
  • Central Processing Unit (CPU)
  • Flash memory
  • Non-volatile RAM
  • Network Interfaces
  • Console
  • RAM

The Process of Working in a Router

When you connect your router to an Internet provider’s network, it starts to work as follows:
  • Your router will power on and will load its OS using flash.
  • It will start loading the configuration file saved to NVRAM and will set up the network interface and routing protocol to run.
  • It will add the network address and subnet for every interface as well as the name of the interface itself.
  • The router follows a simple static default route and transfers all non-local data out of the Internet providers network port.
  • When any web page request is placed, the router will check the destination IP address against the routing table.
  • The bits formed from the destination IP address in the IP packet are used as a hash key which helps direct to the correct route. This turns points to the correct network interface to which the packet needs to be forwarded to.
  • Using the correct interface, the router transmits the packet out towards the next router that repeats the process until it reaches its destination.

Basically, a router is a networking device that helps in routing data packets between the home network and another network.

So, a router will allocate IP addresses to the devices connected using a DHCP server. It also helps carry out Network Address Translation (NAT).

This is how a router works. It is actually a simple process if you do not dwell deep into the technical process.

Benefits of a Dedicated IP

Hosting a website on a shared server is often an invitation to worries. One may worry their website may be blacklisted due to the spammy habit of another website hosted on the shared server. If you too are thinking of hosting your website on a dedicated IP, you may have plenty of questions regarding its advantages.

Let us have a look at some of the benefits of a dedicated IP and understand why it makes it crucial for hosting websites.

What is Dedicated IP?

Before we dwell on the crucial benefits, let us understand what is dedicated IP. IP stands for Internet Protocol, which is a unique address, assigned to each computer, mobile or Internet-enabled device connected to a certain network. This IP address helps one find the actual location of the computer or a website on any given network.

A dedicated IP means the website has its own personal address that cannot be shared with anyone. This means you and only you have the right to use this IP address and can access your website from the Web.

Why Owning a Dedicated IP Beneficial?

It is difficult to judge whether you should or should not use a dedicated IP. However, if you find after reading the benefits of dedicated IP that you too will gain from it, then it is definitely a right choice for you.
  • A dedicated IP address will help you establish and be accountable for your emails. The emails will no longer be grouped together with spam emails and, therefore, improve your IP reputation.
  • If your website has high-volume traffic or you need to send over 100k emails per year, then it is better to shift to a dedicated IP address. This will help prevent your high-volume traffic site from crashing or becoming slow when multiple users access it at the same time. Thus, the reputation of your site won’t be marred by a crash report.
  • You can have your own private SSL Certificate with a dedicated IP address. This will be beneficial for e-commerce websites that require SSL certificates when accepting credit card details online. Thus, your customers will feel secured when sharing their details with your site after they see an SSL certificate.
  • There may be other websites that spam or come under the adult website category when using a shared IP. If any of these websites raises a red flag, it may cause the entire IP address from their index to be blacklisted or blocked. Thus, your website too comes under scanner causing an embarrassment for your company. Choosing a dedicated IP for your website in such a case will ensure your IP address remains safe and does not cost you your reputation.

These are some candid benefits of a dedicated IP address. If you find these benefits will definitely boost your website reputation and be helpful for your customers, then choosing a dedicated IP address should be your next investment step.

Telecommunication providers around the world do feel the pressing need to completely overhaul their current wireless infrastructure due to 5G. The big shot companies around the world are already working towards to build their future products that are 5G compatible. Thus, many technologies are now getting listed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) as ‘Release 15’ and ‘Release 16’ standards for wireless telecom. In other words, technology that is ready for 5G.

5G network combines cutting-edge network technology and the latest research. It will offer faster data speed and better reliable smartphone and other device connections. The download speed on a 5G connection is supposed to be faster around 1GBps, thus, making all the previous network connections appear obsolete.

Around the world, companies are working on a fast pace to be able to launch 5G networks globally by 2020. The 5G network will work along with the existing 3G and 4G technology. It will help one stay online anywhere around the world with speedier network connections.

What Will Be The Speed of a 5G Network?

5G network will definitely be faster than a 4G network. However, GSMA providers are proposing, it will be around 1GBps. It is expected that 5G may reach about 10Gb/s or have a transfer rate of about 800Gb/s. Thus, downloading a full HD quality film will take just a couple of seconds and installing software updates may take just a few minutes as compared to the time taken today.

This is all about what is 5G. You may need to upgrade your device to a 5G compatible one or incur additional costs to make the existing one 5G compatible.

Tips to Speed Up Windows 10

Windows 10 PC was all shiny and glittery when launched. It has been one of the best versions of Windows operating system and it gives the best experience to the user. With regular updates, the performance of your computer seems to get better and better. However, you may face some hiccups such as decrease in speed.

Some of the following tips to speed up Windows 10 will be discussed in the following guide.
Tips and Tricks That Make Windows 10 Faster

Many users have found Windows 10 working slower than its preceding versions. It may have been working faster before your device got loaded with your folders, files, applications and other extras. There are a few tips which will help you overcome a slow PC and speed up Windows 10.

1.Choose a Suitable Power Plan

Windows 10 comes with a Power saver plan that tends to slow down the PC. This is because it tends to reduce your PC’s performance ability to save your electricity. Thus, make sure you change your default power plan to High Performance to give your PC an instant boost.
Go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options. Here, you will see two options Balanced (recommended) and Power saver. High Performance adds to muscle power of your PC, but tends to use more electricity. Balance will help you find the balance between better performance and use of power. If you are a desktop user, then you do not need to use the power saver plan. However, laptop users should try using High Performance when connected to a power source and Balanced when unplugged.

2.Reduce the Number of Start-up Programs in Windows 10

Just like the previous versions, of Windows, you can disable the start-up programs in Windows 10 too. Al you need to do is press Control + Shift + Esc or right-click the lower corner of the screen. Then select Task Manager. When Task Manager is launched, a compact app will appear on the screen with no tabs and click on ‘More details’ at the bottom of the screen. Click at it and you will be able to kill all the unnecessary programs that launch on start up.
Just scroll down the list and right-click on the program and click ‘Disable’. This means the program is not disabled, but only prevented from launching at startup. Thus, you will find your computer is relatively faster when you start your computer after you disable the unnecessary applications.

3.Clean Up Registry

Registry keeps a track of everything happing with Windows and controls the way it works and appears. However, even after you uninstall a program, the settings related to it never get up in the Registry. Thus, you have countless useless settings piling up. This can slow up your computer over time.

You need a Registry Cleaner that will help you remove all the useless items in your Registry. You can try using Auslogics Registry Cleaner that helps you clean up your computer’s Registry and even allows you to restore in case something is deleted by mistake.

4.Disable The Glam Effects

Windows 10 comes with many eye-catching effects such as animations, visual effects as well as shadows. But this tends to slow down the performance, especially on slower, older version PC’s. Thus, it is better to turn it off. Just go to Windows 10 search box and type sysdm.cpl  and hit Enter.
This command will launch System Properties and on clicking Advanced tab, click ‘Settings’. You will reach Performance Options dialog box where you can see different animations and special effects.
You can turn on and off the animations and special effects as per your needs. It is even better if you just select ‘Adjust for best performance’ at the top of the screen and click OK. Thus, all the effects that slow down you system will be turned off by Windows 10.

5.Check the Performance Monitor

Windows 10 comes with a wonderful feature called the Performance monitor. It gives you a detailed report related to your PC, system as well as any performance issues and will come up with suggestions.

You need to type perfmon /report in the search box and then press Enter. After about several minutes, the Resource and Performance Monitor will provide you with an interactive report.
It gives a very detailed report and takes time to look at. You should go to Warning section and find big issues, if any. It will even provide you with solutions to fix any problem.

6.Turn Off Search Indexing

Whenever you search for a file in the Documents library, it gives you results immediately. However, this is the result of indexing that can slow down your PC. You need to turn off all indexing by right-clicking C: drive and selecting Properties.  In General tab, uncheck Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties. A warning box will appear and you need to select Apply changes to drive C:\, subfolders and files. This process takes time, so better try it before lunch time.

In case you want to turn of certain indexing, then you need to type indexing in Cortana. Then choose Indexing Options and click Modify near the lower-left side. A new dialog box will open with two sections. Begin with Summary of selected locations right at the bottom of the dialog box. Click at any of the options and it will change the contents in the top section. When you uncheck the items in Change selected locations it will stop indexing those locations.

7.Clean the internal drive

If the internal storage is full then it will definitely slow down your computer. In Cortana, type disk and select Disk Cleanup. Allow disk cleanup to examine your drive and then click Clean up system files. Try checking the options as well. If you are lucky you will find Previous Windows installation(s). Check it and then click OK. It will free up a lot of space.

These are a few tips to speed up Windows 10.  You can even try running Windows Defender and check for any malicious software taking up space in your computer or making it run slow. These methods will help you speed up your Windows 10 PC.

What is TCP / IP?

TCP/IP are not just random alphabets used to refer to a protocol suite. It is an acronym for the technical name Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. The TCP/IP is very important. Without it, no one can ever access the Internet or use anything connected to the Internet. In simple words, it’s goodbye to emails, downloading music, chatting as well as complete lock out from social media sites. Yes, without the TCP/IP protocol you cannot survive online. Let us learn what is TCP/IP and why it is so important for anyone who wishes to be connected to the Internet.

TCP/IP – What Is It All About?

The TCP/IP is a suite of communications protocols. It helps one connect hosts to each other on the Internet. It is a two-layer program where the TCP is the higher layer and the IP is the lower layer.

The TCP assembles messages or files into smaller packets that are transmitted over the Internet. Another TCP layer that reassembles the packets into the original message receives these smaller packets.

The Internet protocol or IP takes care of the address part of each these packets. It makes sure that the packet addressed to a particular destination reaches it.

There is an extensive set of protocols make up the TCP/IP suite. It helps different computers and devices are connected over the network and share information.

TCP/IP is Standard

TCP/IP is an open-standard communications protocol suite. It is the standard mode of communication over the Internet. Whenever you get home a new computer, the TCP/IP is already stacked inside. The software stacked into your computer is always different from somebody else’s.

The Different TCP/IP Layers and Protocols

There are different layers and protocols used to send messages from your computer to another. Some of these layers include:

Layer 1 – Physical that includes wires, cables and radio waves

Layer 2 – Data Link protocol works network hardware, Ethernet and VPNs

Layer 3 – Internet  is the Internet Protocol

It is further divided into:
  • IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6)
  • ARP (Address Resolution Protocol)
  • RARP (Reverse Address Resolution Protocol)
  • ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol)
  • IPSec (IP Security Protocols)
  • L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol)
  • CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing)

Layer 4 – Transport
  • TCP (Transmission Control Protocol)
  • UDP (User Diagram Protocol)

Layer 5 – Application
  • DNS (Domain Name Service)
  • FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
  • HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol)
  • SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)
  • POP3 (Post Office Protocol Version 3)
  • Telnet, etc.
You won’t even realize the different layers and protocols your messages go through. All this happens so seamlessly. Imagine if you had to learn all the protocols and their functions to help get your messages across. It is just because of TCP/IP that using the Internet becomes a piece of cake.

What is Ethernet?

What is Ethernet?

It is very important to have access to reliable, efficient and easily exchanged information today. You no longer need to maintain huge storage cabinets with files and folders filled with important data. Today all you need to do is upload all your information online and even share it with co-workers and business partners who are miles apart instantaneously. All this is possible only due to computer networking technology.

The Internet has made it possible for people to share information around the world in a matter of minutes. You can reach out to your customers real-time and make deals easily. There is one thing that makes it all possible and is called as the Ethernet. Let us see what is Ethernet in the following paragraphs.

Ethernet- Overview

An Ethernet is the local-area network (LAN) protocol. The term ‘Ether’ refers to the ‘divine element’ in the heaven. It is thought to exist everywhere, in space, heaven and earth. In the world of computer networking, it means a ‘network of everywhere’.

Xerox PARC created it in 1973 by Robert Metcalfe and others. Ethernet is the fastest and the most reliable network solution that is still in use today. It is a link layer protocol in the TCP/IP stack. An Ethernet can touch the Layer 1 (physical layer) and the Layer 2 (the data link layer) on the OSI network protocol model.

Ethernet LAN was designed to run over coaxial cables. Today it uses special grades of twisted pair cables or fiber optical cabling.

This is some idea about what is Ethernet in general. It is one of the most reliable systems for networking available today.

How to Find IP Location?

The Internet Protocol, or IP address is unique to every Internet-enabled device just like a fingerprint. It is very important as it helps two or more devices communicate with each other. This interaction between computers makes it very easy for hackers as well as spammers attack your PC. If you wish to know more about a particular PC and its location, you can do so by finding out its IP location.

Let us learn about how to find IP location of a PC who is trying to communicate with your device.

How to Find Someone’s IP Address Using Website Address

You can trace an IP address using website IP address.
  • You need to open the command console on Windows OS or the Terminal on a MAC.
  • Now, enter the URL of the website you wish to trace, for example, www.tubmlr.com.
  • Press Enter/Return and you will find the IP address appear next to the name of the website you have entered.

How to Find Someone’s IP Address Using Email Address

When you receive an email, you receive more information that just the message sent. It comes with headers that have information related to where it was sent from and in some cases who sent it. Now, those who sends a message through Gmail using a client like Thunderbird, Outlook or Apple Mail, you will be able to get the original IP address.

Gmail

Now, when you receive a mail in your Gmail, you need to click on the inverted triangle next to the Reply tab. Click on Show Original and a new window with a lots of codes and your message will appear. Here, you need to look for Received followed by an IP address in between square brackets []. For example:

Received: from nm41-vm9.bullet.mail.ne1.yahoo.com (nm41-vm9.bullet.mail.ne1.yahoo.com. [98.138.120.213])

Now, use the numbers between the brackets to find the IP location of the sender.

Yahoo

Those using Yahoo mail need to open the mail they wish to track. Click on More and select Full Header from the drop-down menu. Search for Received: from and copy the IP address in []. If you find there are many Received: from go for the address in the last pattern. Or look for the instance with IP address in X-Originating-IP.

Hotmail

Hotmail or Windows Live account users need to go to their inbox. Under Sort by select the email you wish to track. You will get a menu with lots of drop-down options. You need to select View message source. This will give you email headers and from here you can find the IP address of the sender. You can look for X-Originating-IP or Received: from.

How to Track IP Address Found?

Once you find the IP address of the person you are looking for, copy it and paste it in any website that offers lookup of IP addresses. Some of these websites that helps provide you a comprehensive information regarding the IP location includes:
  • MyIpTest.com
  • Geotool
  • HostIp
  • Whois
  • Iplocation.net
  • Whatismyipaddress.com
These websites will provide you with information related to IP Location, proxy, device type, OS, browser, user agent, screen size, cookie, javascript, etc.

Most of the time, you get the address of the server from where the email is sent. Not the exact location of the sender. If you are getting disturbing mails or someone is blackmailing you on the Internet, you need to seek help from proper authorities. Only a legal action will help pinpoint the exact location, PC as well as person who is trying to intimidate or cyberbully you.

What is the Difference Between Private and Public IP Address

An IP address or Internet Protocol helps in identify each networked computer and device on a particular network. The communication between two Internet-enabled devices is carried out by exchanging information using each other’s IP address.

There are two types of IP addresses that you will often come across. It includes a private IP address and a public IP address. Let us have a look at information that will help you know what the difference between private and public IP address is.

Public IP Address

The Internet Service Provider (ISP) through the router that is connected provides a public IP address to your PC or Internet-enabled device using a modem.

Private IP Address

A private IP address simply means an IP address that is assigned to a particular device by the user or the network. It helps one use their private network at home or office.

Difference Between Public IP Address and Private IP Address

A public IP address is an IP address can be accessed through the Internet. It is just like a pin code of an area. It is exclusive to a particular area of a particular region of a particular city. The computing device assigns the unique IP addresses that can be easily found on various websites providing information on IP address.

A private IP address is like a fingerprint. It is unique to each computer or device connected to the Internet. If there are multiple devices in your home or office network connected to the Internet, each will have a unique private IP address. You can find your unique IP address from the router using the DHCP protocol.

The public IP address helps a user access the Internet directly. It means a web server; email server or any other server device can access the Internet using the public IP address. The public IP address is globally unique and can only be assigned to a unique device.

The private IP address helps one create their own private networks. This means smartphones, tablets, computers and laptops in your home are all given a private IP address so that only you and your family can use the private network.

A public IP address is connected to the Internet network and a private IP address is connected via LAN. All public IP addresses are registered with the Network Information Centre, whereas, private IP addresses are not required to be registered. You will need a modem to connect to a network using public IP address and a private IP requires a router to be connected to a network.

These are some of the differences between private and public IP addresses. A public IP address helps you connect to the global Internet network, whereas, a private IP helps only your trusted devices connect to your private Internet network.

5G Anticipation Set to Slow Smartphone Sales

There is a slump in the demands for smartphones in the market today. This stagnation in the demand for smartphones is attributed to the anticipation of 5G compatible phones. This new generation of 5G compatible smartphones seems to have challenged the popularity of the current wireless technology that has transformed the life of the people.

Mobile phones were introduced in the late 90s. However, it was Apple iPhone that kicked off frenzy for smartphone demands. The ability to connect to the Internet on the go helped in the growing demand for smartphones. It all started with 1G in 1981, which was followed by2G in the year 1991. It was in 1998 that 3G came into picture and finally the year 2008 saw the commercial launch of 4G technology.

The difference in these ‘generations’ is the technology they supported. 1G was good for just voice-only. 2G helped improved call and text encryption, which included data services such as SMS and MMS. With 3G people could start using their smartphones for video calling and mobile internet. 4G helped access high speed internet gaming services, high definition mobile TV, video conference, as well as 3D TV on a smartphone.

The 4G phones although launched in 2008 gained commercial success only in 2010. The year 2009 saw around 173.5 million units sold and there was a 75% jump in sales by the year 2010 (around 300 million units). This is because more and more users switched to 4G that led to increase in demand for new smartphones.

5G technology will lead to age of smart energy, smart cities, autonomous vehicles as well as Internet of Things (IoT). As more and more companies around the world are testing 5G networks, it is anticipated that the latest 5G enabled smartphones will be launched by 2020.

5G smartphones will account for about 7% of the market share in 2020 according to the International Data Corporation. This share will grow to about 18% of the total volumes by 2022. According to Ericsson’s 2018 Mobility Report, there will be around 1 Billion 5G devices by 2023.

Thus, the 5G anticipation is set to slow smartphone sales for the time being. Once 5G enabled devices are launched commercially, they will be quite expensive as compared to 4G smartphones available today. They will gradually pick up sales as 4G soon starts fading out and more devices flood the market in competition to vie for the top spot in sales.

Different Types of Routers

A router is a networking device that helps in receiving, analyzing as well as moving incoming packets to another network. They are usually used to share a single Internet connection between different computers or Internet-enabled devices.

There are different types of routers that you should consider before buying a router for your home or business.

Let us have a look at these different types of routers that will make it easy to select the one that suits your needs.

Types of Routers in the Market

There are many companies that sell different types of routers. The main types of routers are broadband routers and wireless routers.

Broadband routers

The most common type of router is the broadband router. It helps in doing different things that helps in connecting computers or connecting the Internet to the computer. A broadband router is needed when you connect the Internet using the phone and Voice over IP technology (VOIP). This router is a special type of modem (ADSL) that has both Ethernet and phone jack.

Wireless Routers

The wireless router creates a wireless signal within a home or business. Thus, any Internet-enabled device within its wireless signal range can connect to the Internet. You need to add a password and a user ID to your network so that only devices allowed by you are able to connect to your wireless signal network.

Edge Router

This router is usually placed at the edge of the ISP network and is normally configured to an external protocol such as Border gateway protocol (BGP) to another BGP of other ISP or large organization.

Core Router

A router is placed within the middle or backbone of the LAN network and in some cases, it helps provide a stepdown backbone. It is usually used in interconnecting distribution routers from multiple buildings within a campus (LAN) or Large enterprise location (WAN).

There are other types of routers as well such as the wired and the wireless routers. These are very popular for home and small office networking needs. This article will surely give you a fair idea about different types of routers.

How to Troubleshoot Wireless Router Problems

After following the network router’s instructions by the book, you still run into trouble connecting. Or maybe all was well initially and you suddenly find your network connection failing. The following guidelines on how to troubleshoot wireless router problems will help you get through the issues faced.

Troubleshooting Wireless Router Issues

Every person using a Wi-Fi connection has known connection issues. There is no need to imagine blasting away your router, instead let us focus on some common issues and their simple solutions.

1.Slow Network

Is your connection so slow that you could go to the moon and back? Your router may be working on the 2.5GHz band. This is the most common bandwidth for microwaves, cordless phones, even baby monitors and other devices around the house. This may cause interference with your network connectivity. Try changing the bandwidth to 5 GHz and see if there is any improvement in the connection speed.

2.Overheating Troubles

Routers can also overheat and become unstable. At times, overheating may damage the router causing it to dysfunction. If you find your router is just too hot or the vents are blocked, it is time to cool it down. Switch it off for some time and place it in a well-ventilated area.

3.Firmware Upgrade

Many times wireless troubles arise when your firmware needs an upgrade. You need to go to your router’s admin page. Here, look for a firmware upgrade option and if available, you need to download and install it. Just follow the instructions and you will be able to upgrade the firmware successfully.

4.Check Cables

Many times, the problem is as tiny as a fly and we obviously overlook it. Just check if all the wires and cables are plugged securely.  It may so happen a plug or wires may have been accidently become loose. Remove and re-plug all the cables and plugs. Restart the router and modem and then check the connectivity. It may have solved the issue.

5.Router Placement

In case you are facing signal problems then you need to reposition your router. There may be something around it like a large metal object, microwave, cordless phone, thick walls, etc. interfering with its signals. Make sure you position your router high above or away from interference. Try positioning the antenna vertically or horizontally to find the best position that gives you a better signal.

You may even try resetting your router to factory settings. Enter new settings as per your needs and connect your device to the new network settings. It may help solve your wireless router problems. If nothing helps, then you may need to buy a new router as the unstable router may continue to give you a headache.

This is how to troubleshoot wireless router problems with these simple solutions.
